Yes. Bitcoin is treated as a native digital commodity under AAOIFI Standard 21's fully-settled trade screen. There is no embedded interest mechanism, no debt obligation, and no haram sector exposure at the protocol level.

Is Ethereum (ETH) halal?

Yes. ETH itself is the native settlement asset of a general-purpose smart-contract chain. It is not interest-bearing. Spot purchases of ETH are permissible. Note that liquid staking derivatives are a separate scholarly question.

Is crypto staking halal?

It depends on the protocol. Native PoS staking where rewards come from transaction fees and protocol participation (not from lending) is generally permissible. Liquid staking derivatives that wrap staked positions into transferable tokens have ongoing scholarly debate.

Are stablecoins like USDT or USDC halal?

No trade until cleared. USDT and USDC are pegged to USD and are widely used for spot trades, but their reserves may include interest-bearing instruments, so HalalCrypto does not clear them for trading until the asset-specific evidence is reviewed and published.

Are crypto perpetual futures halal?

No. Perpetual futures involve leverage and indefinite contract terms with funding rates — both are excluded under AAOIFI rules on excessive leverage and maysir.

Is Bitcoin mining halal?

Yes. Proof-of-work mining is a service: contributing computational work in exchange for protocol-issued rewards is not riba. The mined BTC itself is halal.

It depends on the underlying content and use case. NFTs representing real-world rights, art, or utility are generally permissible if they do not include haram content. Speculative NFTs without underlying utility may have maysir concerns.

What is gharar in crypto?

Gharar refers to excessive uncertainty in a contract. In crypto, gharar concerns arise when a token's mechanism, governance, custody, or backing is not transparently disclosed. AAOIFI Standard 21 §3/2 prohibits contracts with material unresolved uncertainty.

Is DeFi lending halal?

Generally no. DeFi lending protocols that pay interest on deposits or charge interest on loans involve riba and are excluded.

Do I need to pay zakat on my crypto?

Yes if your crypto holdings exceed the nisab and are held for one lunar year. Treat halal-screened crypto as tradeable wealth (urud al-tijara) and calculate 2.5% on the current market value. Consult a qualified Shariah advisor for your specific situation.
