The AAOIFI Cryptocurrency Standard, Explained

AAOIFI is the standard-setting body whose Shariah standards are widely adopted across Islamic finance. Its standards address tradable instruments, currencies, and — more recently — digital assets, giving a consistent basis for ruling on new financial products.

We use these standards as the reference framework for screening crypto. Describing our work as AAOIFI-aligned means the methodology follows those published principles; it is not a claim of certification or endorsement by AAOIFI.

AAOIFI جهة معايير تُعتمد معاييرها الشرعية على نطاق واسع في التمويل الإسلامي. وتتناول معاييرها الأدوات القابلة للتداول والعملات، ومؤخّرًا الأصول الرقمية، بما يوفّر أساسًا متّسقًا للحكم على المنتجات المالية الجديدة.

ونستخدم هذه المعايير إطارًا مرجعيًّا لفحص الكريبتو. ووصف عملنا بأنه متوافق مع AAOIFI يعني أن المنهجية تتبع تلك المبادئ المنشورة؛ وليس ادّعاء اعتماد أو تزكية من AAOIFI.

Gate 1 — Riba: no embedded interest, no guaranteed fixed yield, no interest-bearing reserve.

Gate 2 — Gharar: no excessive uncertainty; we restrict to spot trading of a real, fully-settled asset rather than futures and derivatives.

Gate 3 — Maysir: the asset's core mechanism is not gambling or a zero-sum bet.

Gate 4 — Sector: the underlying activity is not a prohibited sector. A coin must pass all four; failing any one excludes it.

البوابة الأولى — الربا: لا فائدة مدمجة، ولا عائد ثابت مضمون، ولا احتياطي ربوي.

البوابة الثانية — الغرر: لا جهالة فاحشة؛ ونقتصر على التداول الفوري لأصل حقيقي كامل التسوية بدل العقود الآجلة والمشتقّات.

البوابة الثالثة — الميسر: ألا تكون آلية الأصل الأساسية قمارًا أو رهانًا صفري المحصلة.

البوابة الرابعة — القطاع: ألا يكون النشاط الأساسي قطاعًا محرّمًا. ويجب اجتياز البوابات الأربع؛ والفشل في واحدة يُسقط العملة.
